Looking more or less from West to East, across Rt 9.I
(Tony)was on the crew that installed the first TRC-97
at Stud. The original location was on a treed rise to
the East of the North end of the runway. Sometime in
July/August ’68, there was a cyclone that caused the
relocation of the site to the HQ area at the bottom of
Signal Hill.
Same perspective. The original shot
was at the edge of the trees in the
center of the background.
From the original shot,
across the SeaBee area
(note the nice bunkers!),
to the HQ area.
Both of the original site.
Me (Tony), at original
site
From original site,
across airstrip and Rt 9.
Same perspective as above,From original site,
across airstrip and Rt 9.
The above set of Photos of LZ Stud are courtesy of Tony Mastriani who was with the 5th Comm Battalion from 4-68~12-69and went to RR School with Bill McGighan and Dan Anderson who were in HQ 4th Marines.

A shot of the Enlisted club, the
bunker at the top of the hill is the
Officers/NCO club (I think) at
Vandegrift Combat Base. Must of
been early 69.
